There are moments in life that, without realizing it, end up marking you forever.

For me, one of those moments happened more than thirty years ago, when I was just a twenty-year-old beginning to find my way with hope and a great deal of effort.

I remember that night perfectly. I had managed to gather my first honestly earned salary and decided to celebrate something important: a special dinner with an extraordinary woman.

I chose one of the most iconic restaurants in Mallorca at the time, Restaurante Don Luis in Cala Major. And it was there, surrounded by nerves, excitement, and youthful dreams, that I discovered for the first time a wine I would never forget: Luis Cañas.

It may seem like a simple anecdote, even insignificant to some, but there are flavors and moments that remain engraved in your memory forever.

That wine accompanied one of the most important memories of my life, and ever since, I have always thought the same: there is no better wine than a great Luis Cañas at the right moment.

Today, three decades later, life offers me an opportunity I could never have imagined: to include Bodegas Luis Cañas in the gastronomic portfolio of the Balearic Nautical Project and, thanks to Air Europa, to personally visit one of the most admired and respected wineries in the Spanish wine landscape.

And I can say, after experiencing its essence from within, that everything makes sense.

From the very first moment we walked through the doors of the winery, we were welcomed by José Miguel, a key figure within this great family, who has been part of it for more than 33 years.

It only took a glance, a conversation, and a few minutes walking through those facilities to understand that behind every bottle there is something far deeper than wine: there is humanity.

During the visit, we discovered an admirable philosophy based on absolute respect for the land, the vineyards, and the people.

At Luis Cañas, they do not simply cultivate grapes; they cultivate values.

There, we understood how they care for each plot with extraordinary sensitivity, how they support and provide opportunities to those who work during the harvest, how they built homes next to the vineyards to offer well-being to the families connected to the crop, and how they share knowledge and land to teach others to love the vineyard as they do.

But perhaps the most moving discovery was that in this winery, ego has no place.

At Luis Cañas, they cherish the ecosystem surrounding their vineyards. They respect the trees, the insects, the animals, and nature with a sensitivity that is difficult to find today.

They are even capable of choosing not to plant more vines simply to preserve a century-old tree, because they understand that true value does not lie solely in producing more, but in leaving a legacy.

They also promote projects in which families plant trees together with their grandchildren within the vineyards, creating an eternal bond between generations, nature, and memory.

And if there was one moment that truly touched our souls during the visit, it was seeing a simple photograph, yet immense in meaning: a grandfather standing beside his grandson, passing on everything he had learned throughout his life.

In that image, there was not just a family. There was history, sacrifice, knowledge, respect for the land, and love for a legacy built generation after generation.

Because in the end, that is precisely what makes a winery like Luis Cañas great: understanding that wine is not born solely from the grape, but also from the values passed from parents to children.

Knowing that there is a new generation ready to continue this path restores our hope and gives us the strength to keep believing that there is still a future where authenticity, humanity, and respect for our roots will continue to hold immeasurable value.

And that is when I understood why that wine marked me so many years ago.

Because behind every great wine, there are great people.

After this visit, we can proudly affirm that Bodegas Luis Cañas perfectly represents all the values upon which the Balearic Nautical Gastronomic Project is built: excellence, authenticity, respect, tradition, humanity, and love for the land.

For this reason, it will be a true honor for us to become ambassadors of an exceptional product that will not only be present at sea, but also in some of the most exclusive and special gastronomic spaces in Mallorca.

Because there are wines you drink…

And there are wines that become part of your story.

Luis Cañas is, without a doubt, one of them.

So let us take a good glass of wine, fill it with family, and raise a toast to it.

Because in the end, the best moments in life are not measured by the years that pass, but by the people with whom we share them.
